Jon Stewart on blasphemy and religious intolerance

Jon Stewart is once again the voice of reason. In this video, he discusses the recent controversy over South Park’s unsuccessful attempts to portray Muhammad. To those who have threatened violence against the creators of South Park, Stewart tells them to “go f*ck themselves.”

Joseph Smith and Stephen Colbert

I stumbled upon the above picture on a Mormon discussion forum earlier today. Maybe the picture is only good for a laugh. It’s at least good for that much. But because the picture invites a comparison between Joseph Smith and Stephen Colbert, let’s explore it (if for no other reason than it would be fun to do so).  :)

So what are some similarities between these two men? Any thoughts?

I’ve been thinking about, and—despite all their obvious differences—I think Smith and Colbert would have really hit it off. They are both boisterous, dramatic, and creative personalities. Imagine Smith as a guest on the Colbert Report, for example. The prophet of Truth vs. the pundit of “truthiness.” Now that’s must-see TV! And with Smith’s quick-wit and sense of humor, I actually suspect he’d hold up quite well against Colbert.

Is Religion in the way of Reform?

While surfing around the web for the latest and greatest in the seemingly endless Health Care debate, I came across an interesting video from one of my favorite shows, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. During one of their quick snippet video jokes they highlighted part of a speech from a member of the House of Representatives. His name is (R) Todd Akin and he represents Missouri’s 2nd District. In the video he stated how he believes that we’re standing on the abyss and that people who have issues with the current Health Care bill should turn to God in prayer to ask for his help “supernaturally”. All in an attempt to make sure we don’t take “this fatal step into socialized medicine.”
